【摘要】:Thispracticecoverstheevaluationoftheperformanceofdiffusivesamplersofgasesandvaporsforuseoversamplingperiodsfrom4to12h.Samplingperiodsofsuchdurationarethemostcommoninworkplacesampling.Givenasuitableexposurechamber,thepracticecanbestraightforwardlyextendedtocoversamplersforuseoverothersamplingperiodsaswell.Theaimistoprovideaconcisesetofexperimentsforclassifyingsamplersprimarilyaccordingtoasinglenumericalvaluerepresentingsampleraccuracy.Accuracyestimatesrefertoconditionsofsamplerusewhicharenormallyexpectedinaworkplacesetting.Theseconditionsmaybecharacterizedbythetemperature,atmosphericpressure,humidity,andambientwindspeed,noneofwhichmaybeconstantoraccuratelyknown.Futhermore,theaccuracyaccountsfortheestimationoftime-weighedaveragesofconcentrationswhichmaynotbeconstantintime.Asidefromaccuracy,thesamplersaretestedforcompliancewiththemanufacturersstatedlimitsoncapacity,possiblyinthepresenceofinterferingcompounds.Thesamplersare,further,classifiedastotheircapabilityfordetectingsituationsinwhichsamplercapacitymaybeexceeded.Thispracticeisanextensionofpreviousresearchondiffusivesamplers(1-13)aswellasPracticesD4597,D4598,D4599,andMDHS27.Anessentialadvancehereistheestimationofsampleraccuracyunderactualconditionsofuse.Furthermore,costsofsamplerevaluationarereduced.Furtheringthelatterpoint,knowledgeofsimilaritybetweenanalytesofinterestcanbeusedtoexpeditesamplerevaluation.Forexample,interpolationofdatacharacterizingthesamplingofanalytesatseparatedpointsofahomologousseriesofcompoundsisrecommended.Atpresenttheprocedureof(9)issuggested.Followingevaluationofasamplerinuseatasinglehomologousseriesmemberaccordingtothepresentpractice,highermolecularweightmemberswouldreceivepartialvalidationsconsideringsamplingrate,capacity,analyticalrecovery,andinterferences.UnitsoftheInternationalSystem(SI)areusedthroughoutthisguideandshouldberegardedasstandard.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
